Christine L. Burns, M.D
CHRISTINE L. BURNS, M.D., Pediatric Ophthalmologist, prides the specialized eye care that many children require for such eye problems as: strabismus (crossed eyes), lazy eye, cataracts at birth, droopy eyelids, blocked tear ducts and tumors and growths of the eyelids. Dr. Burns also specializes in Adult Strabismus and double vision.
Dr. Burns studied at John Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland, for two years and received her medical degree from Albany Medical College, Albany, New York. She also completed her ophthalmology residency at Albany Medical College. Dr. Burns was awarded a Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology under noted surgeon J. Allen Gammon, at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia.
Prior to joining the Suncoast Eye Center, Dr. Burns was a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army and was Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Active in the academic community, Dr. Burns’ teaching appointments include: Harvard Medical School, Emory University School of Medicine, Brooke Army Medical Center, the University of Texas, San Antonio and the University of South Florida, College of Medicine, where she is currently a Clinical Associate Professor in Ophthalmology and a member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, where she has served as Chair of both the Education Committee and the National Children’s Eye Foundation.
Dr. Lawrence A. Seigel,
in an continuing effort to formally reach out into the community to help others,
successfully established the Suncoast Eye Center Foundation in 1985. These non-profit Foundations goals are to provide or obtain, necessary eye care and treatment for the needy in our
community and educate the communities served by the Suncoast Eye Center about eye health care.

The Suncoast Eye Surgery Institute first opened January 1989. Our state-of-the-art facility is equipped with two operating rooms, two laser suites and comfortable pre and post-operative areas. Your surgical experience and comfort should be as pleasant as possible.
